Hello, and thanks for watching. This video offers a quick overview of how to book trades in Molecule, using the native language trade entry screen. If you have any questions specific to your organization, we'd love to explore them further with you. Feel free to contact us at connect@molecule.io. Enjoy the demo.
When you log into the Molecule application, you'll land by default on the Trade Blotter. At the top of the main panel, you'll see a drop-down arrow on the right-hand side. Click this to expose the trade entry screen.
Molecule does not use templates. Rather, you book the trade against the product directly, allowing you to book all trades via the same blotter, and the product holds the characteristics of the trade. Sample expressions are provided as a reference on how to book each of the following: forwards, futures, swaps, options.
To enter a trade using natural language, you can type in the details in the order defined, as if you were speaking it out loud: Buy 25 megawatts of Hub West, 7 by 24. As you type, you'll notice the trade details begin populating below.
Next, continue filling out the trade: counterparty: Shell Trading. Price: 45 dollars. Delivery Period: August 2025. Then, assign a tag (Book) — in this case, we'll use "demo." Click Save, and the trade will be booked.
Let's now take a look at booking a future. For this example, we will look at two options available to the user. First, using the same natural language input style as the prior example, and second via Excel upload.
Let's go through the two approaches. Like the forward, this time though we use the exchange ticker for the product: N.G. for nat gas. Let's go ahead and book the following: Buy 10 lots of NG for 4.75 in December of 2025. You will see the trade created, allowing you to enter additional fields, such as the FCM and clearing fees if they are not auto-populated from the fee grid. Again, we will enter "Book" and hit Save.
Second approach is to import from an Excel template. First, we need to grab the import template via the Actions drop-down. Opening the file, we will see the default fields, along with the fields to capture options. Through the online help file you will see what additional columns can be added. A common example would be the Interval Start and Interval End for power. Let's go ahead and modify the file, updating price and quantity, and save the changes.
Selecting the upload button, the system will start the process and show you in real time the status of the process. Click Upload, select your file, monitor the notifications panel for confirmation. You'll see the new trades appear in the trade blotter with a flashing highlight.
